Good mornin’ folks, and happy Wednesday. Barry has caused quite the disturbance across the Mississippi River Valley. Because the remnants of the tropical cyclone are still working its way out of our area, rain chances continue, but hot temperatures for the weekend are coming.
Heavy Rain and Storms
The low pressure center is now moving across the Great Lakes, but rain chances for the Ohio Valley remain.
The tropical moisture from Barry along with daytime heating of afternoon temperatures around 85ºF will help to destabilize the atmosphere. This in turn will help develop some pop up slow moving storms. The HRRR (and other models) think the best chance of this happening is east of I-65 this afternoon.
However, the HRRR predicts that we will see a few storms/heavy rain showers by the evening hours, 8pm or so, and ending before midnight.
We will have to watch the HRRR as more runs come in and should have a better idea of this by the time we do the Afternoon Video Update on Facebook.
Skies Eventually Clear Out Tomorrow
We won’t be quite done with the rain chances by tomorrow, but skies will eventually be clearing out. The NAM is predicting a wet morning for us, as some showers work across our area.
The GFS also has morning showers, but also includes some chances for pop up afternoon storms. For this time of year, and as you know, afternoon pop up storms are typical. With any hit or miss storm, expect heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and localized flooding. You know the drill.
Tomorrow’s afternoon temperatures will be a tad warmer than today, reaching close to 90ºF. By the evening hours, skies will begin to calm and skies clear. Overnight, expect partly cloudy skies with a low around 73ºF.
Sunny and Hot Weekend Coming Up
It’s good to have a variety. It’s not good when the temperatures are toasty. Sunny skies and dry conditions return on Friday, and stick around for Saturday and Sunday.
Friday: High temperature around 93ºF, with the Heat Index close to 103ºF. While it’ll be sunny, that heat will hit you like a brick wall. If outside for long periods of time, make sure to drink plenty of water and use sunscreen.
Saturday: Even hotter… with highs around 95ºF, and Heat Index again in the mid 100s. Here’s some helpful advice from out friends at the National Weather Service about Heat Safety:
That wraps up today’s forecast. Hope you have a great Wednesday and rest of the week! Make sure to look for the Afternoon Video Update on Facebook and the Afternoon Weather Story on Twitter, only at @wxornotBG.
