Good morning, friends, and happy Wednesday! After what seemed like 4 months of non-stop rain, we finally have a break from the wet weather pattern. The great outdoors will feel more like summertime, as we will have a major warm up with plenty of sunshine through the end of the week.
An area of high pressure is in place over our area, making for dry skies and warm temperatures.
Sunny skies will dominate today with light winds out of the south. These south winds and clear skies will help warm up our afternoon temperatures to near 90ºF. We haven’t had temperatures like that in a while.
We may see a few cumulus in the afternoon due to heating of the atmosphere, but that’s the only weather expected for today. Extreme western Kentucky may see some afternoon showers and storms, but high pressure should keep them to the west of our area. By the nighttime hours, temperatures will cool to around 68ºF, under partly cloudy skies.
High Pressure Sticks Around for Thursday
Another day of sunshine and even warmer temperatures can be expected for tomorrow. The area of high pressure will still be around to keep us mostly dry.
Again under southerly winds, temperatures will get toasty. Expect highs to reach around 94ºF. The UV index will be high, so make sure to wear sunscreen.
With this much daytime heating, we could see a *very* isolated afternoon summertime thunderstorm, but models don’t really hint at this, and keep us dry. Even if an isolated afternoon storm, it will be very localized and so most of us will stay dry.
By the evening hours, not much change. Expect partly cloudy skies with temperatures around 68ºF overnight.
Once again, high pressure plans to stick around for the most part. Mostly sunny skies, with a few more cumulus clouds building in the afternoon can be expected. Same as Thursday, due to the amount of heating taking place, one of these cumulus clouds could pop up into an isolated afternoon storm, but I wouldn’t necessarily plan your day around that.
With afternoon temperatures reaching around 93ºF, and dew points near 73ºF, it will make for a toasty day. The Heat Index should be in the neighborhood of 101ºF, so all outdoor activities will require plenty of hydration.
By the evening hours, we will be relieved from the heat as temperatures will cool down to around 68ºF. A few clouds may stick around through the nighttime hours, but skies will remain quiet.
That wraps up today’s forecast. Hope you have a great Wednesday and rest of the week! Make sure to look for the Afternoon Video Update on Facebook and the Afternoon Weather Story on Twitter, only at @wxornotBG.
